For decades, we have engaged in knowledge exchange initiatives that have enabled companies in the South West and beyond to harness our academic input. Each year, that involves talking to over 3,500 businesses, and our activities are worth 拢433 million to Plymouth in terms of output generated.

A selection of our partnerships


  • Leading a UK Research and Innovation collaboration of academia, industry, policymakers and the public, to accelerate the impact of current and future ORE devices and systems, and to drive the UK towards it net zero commitments.

  • Working closely with navy personnel in marine autonomy and to secure maritime operations through cyber resilience research, tools and training.

  • A research and testing partnership, which aims to increase industry access to facilities and ORE expertise, including technology development labs, testing equipment and virtual reality suites.

  • Accelerating the deployment of floating wind in the Celtic Sea by collecting data and developing tools and knowledge as part of the Cornwall FLOW Accelerator.

  • Partnering with the globally renowned provider of next-generation maritime software and digital solutions, Kongsberg Digital, to create a new system that could revolutionise the UK鈥檚 floating offshore wind sector.

  • Supporting Tier 1 industry by leading the CCP-WSI, a consortium of HEIs to facilitate world-class wave structure interaction (WSI) research using national High-End Computing (HEC) resources.

  • Addressing technical and regulatory challenges, and exploiting new opportunities across the full spectrum of potential marine autonomous system applications.

  • Establishing the UK鈥檚 first e-marine hub of shore-side charging facilities for electric maritime vessels.
